Job Summary

Langan is seeking an Associate or Senior Environmental Project Manager to join its collaborative team in Salt Lake City, UT. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, leading, mentoring and growing a team of environmental professionals in our Salt Lake City office. The candidate is expected to have a strong command of local environmental regulations and regulatory programs and have experience remediating land development-driven brownfield sites in Utah as part of multi-disciplinary teams. The candidate will be responsible for developing new business and for hiring, developing and mentoring staff on technical engineering and environmental tasks. A strong technical background, seller/doer experience, and a professional demeanor are essential. In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage diverse projects, solve problems and overcome challenges in restoring the environment and returning blighted properties to productive re-use while protecting and enhancing the environment

Job Responsibilities

  • Identify new clients and attend business development meetings with new and existing clients;
  • Identify, interview and hire junior staff to establish and grow an environmental practice in a multi-disciplinary office;
  • Provide direct oversight, mentorship and management of junior staff for specific project assignments. Coach, train, and motivate staff assigned to environmental projects.
  • Supervise and occasionally participate in field activities and ensure correct interpretations of findings. Ensure that data collection and laboratory analyses are completed correctly, within budget, and on time;
  • Manage and deliver on multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Prepare progress reports and draft change orders. Prepare draft invoices, project billings, and assist in payment collections;
  • Effectively organize, write, and edit reports, draft proposals, and other documents;
  • Coordinate other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis;
  • Interface effectively and professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, staff, project personnel, supervisors, and others; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or Science; Master’s degree preferred;
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the State of Utah required;
  • 10+ years of practical experience with environmental investigations and remediation projects;
  • Experience and understanding of land development (i.e., brownfields redevelopment);
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of EPA, CERCLA, and RCRA regulations;
  • Strong knowledge of Utah Department of Environmental Quality (UDEQ) regulations and programs including the Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DEER), DERR's CERCLA, and UST & LUST branches;
  • Familiarity with UDEQ Division of Air Quality requirements for implementation of Asbestos National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) and Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA);
  • Client management/business development abilities and proven record as a seller/doer;
  • Must be entrepreneurial and have a desire to develop a small team and grow a practice;
  • Strong people, project, and client management skills;
  • Knowledge of quantitative/technical analyses and related software;
  • Excellent public speaking, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification as some field work is required; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation for job site locations and client meetings.
