Job Summary

 

Langan is seeking a Senior Advisor, Hydrogeology, in San Francisco, CA to support complex groundwater modeling, hydrogeologic analysis, and environmnetal consulting projects. This part-time role is designed for a technical specialist to provide expertise in hydrogeology and groundwater modeling while providing leadership, technical oversight, and quality control across multidisciplinary project teams. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development, calibration, and interpretation of groundwater flow and contaminant transport models (MODFLOW, MT3D, SEAWAT, FEHM, or equivalent);
  • Conduct advanced hydrogeologic assessments, including aquifer characterization, pumping test analysis, geostatistical evaluations, and water balance studies;
  • Provide senior-level review of hydrogeologic work products, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance;
  • Support complex remedial investigations and feasibility studies with modeling insights, predictive simulations, and sensitivity analyses;
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, memoranda, and presentations for internal teams and clients;
  • Serve as a technical lead on mid-to-large scale environmnetal and water resource projects;
  • Guide junior staff in modeling techniques, hydrogeologic methods, data interpretation, and best practices;
  • Collaborate with environmental engineers, geologists, and project managers across offices to deliver integrated solutions;
  • Participate in client meetings to explain modeling methodologies and results in a clear, confident, and accessible manner;
  • Develop or refine modeling tools, workflows, and QA/QC procedures;
  • Stay current with emerging groundwater modeling software, regulatory requirements, and industry trends;
  • Offer strategic input during proposal development and project scoping, particularly for technically advanced subsurface modeling needs.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related:
  • Professional licensure required;
  • 10 to 15+ years of related work experience;
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal regulations
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification;
  • Proficiency in environmental due diligence;
  • Knowledge of quantitative/technical analyses and related software. Demonstrated ability to perform quantitative and technical analyses;
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements;
  • Excellent public speaking, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, manage multiple projects and clients, develop and manage project budgets, and effectively manage and coach staff; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $112,500 - $171,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
