Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Data Science Intern or Co-op to join its collaborative Information Technology team in Parsippany, NJ. This individual will serve a key function in researching and developing statistical learning models for data analysis using data visualization techniques and tools. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience working on projects for an engineering consulting firm.

Job Responsibilities

  • Researches and develops statistical learning models for data analysis and performs manipulations and visualization of business data using visualization tools and techniques;
  • Collects and interprets data and provides analysis and recommendations;
  • Performs data analysis to discover trends and patterns;
  • Works alongside teams within the business or the management team to establish business needs;
  • Develops custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets;
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Student actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field;
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets;
  • Proficiency in PowerBI\Tableau or other data visualization tools and Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word);
  • Strong understanding of data mining techniques and an ability to apply these techniques in real-world business issues;
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages and drawbacks;
  • Experience in data models and reporting packages and ability to write comprehensive reports;
  • Ability to analyze large data sets;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent, analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities; and
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $23 - $30. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
