Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Cultural Resources Specialist to join its Natural Resources team in Parsippany, NJ. This individual will serve a key function in assisting with complex historical research projects and providing research and technical assistance regarding the treatment of the historic built environment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to support cross-disciplinary projects and the growth of a national cultural resources practice.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze and synthesize historical information to create comprehensive historic contexts for specific geographic areas or building types;
  • Conduct in-depth research using primary sources including historical documents, maps, photographs, and census records to establish historical context and significance of buildings;
  • Participate in the identification, evaluation, and management of historical, archaeological, and cultural assets to ensure compliance with regulations;
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local historic preservation regulations (e.g., Section 106, NEPA, and applicable state requirements) through research, documentation, and analysis;
  • Collaborate with the cultural resources team with ongoing projects and programs;
  • Assist with creating report graphics, taking photographs, conducting site visits, and performing occasional fieldwork in support of archaeological projects;
    Work under the direction of senior staff while independently completing assigned research, documentation, and analysis tasks; 
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Historic Preservation;
  • 0 years of work related experience;
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal preservation laws and regulations;
  • Familiarity with Historic Preservation;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Internet research; Adobe Professional, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
  • Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to occasionally participate in field work and work during evenings and/or weekends, when necessary;
  • Ability to conduct historical research with minimal supervision; and 
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $58,000 - $62,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
