Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join its collaborative Waterfront/Resiliency team in New York City. While this position is based in New York City, the role will include both local and national projects and initiatives. This individual will serve a key function in managing clients, pursuing new project opportunities, providing staff training and project leadership, providing waterfront resiliency expertise, and overseeing waterfront-related permit applications. In this role, you will partner with other in-house disciplines on both small-scale and large-scale private development and public infrastructure waterfront projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate waterfront inspections and geotechnical investigations;
  • Responsible for identifying and proposing potential business opportunities by keeping track of market intelligence in the industry with respect to market developments, projects, competitive activity, customers etc.;
  • Take ownership for identifying, qualifying, and securing business opportunities to grow the waterfront/resiliency practice by cultivating and maintaining mutually beneficial business relationships with current and potential clients that can help strengthen and achieve the firm’s business goals and objectives;
  • Manage and coordinate design work for bulkheads, seawalls, relieving platforms, pile-supported platforms, breakwaters, revetments, stabilized embankments, mechanically stabilized earth and other waterfront structures;
  • Oversee and review preparation of permit applications for waterfront permits (e.g., NYSDEC Tidal Wetlands Permits, USACE Section 10/404 Permits, NYCSBS Waterfront Permits);
  • Oversee preparation of technical documents, reports, construction documents, and construction-related correspondence associated with the projects managed;
  • Oversee preparation of WEDG Verification applications and provide expertise in the implementation of WEDG principles into waterfront design projects;
  • Lead efforts to develop a resiliency practice, together with other like-minded project managers and practice leaders;
  • Perform and manage multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines;
  • Prepare proposals, draft change orders, review invoices, project billings, and collect from clients; and
  • Manage, lead and develop a team of project managers, senior staff, and staff engineers/scientists;
  • Follow up with contacts made at events and provide technical leaders with contact information to develop and manage external relationships that can help strengthen and achieve the firm’s business goals and objectives;
  • Collaborate with project managers and technical leaders to learn about ongoing projects, and research appropriate events and organizations for company participation to assist in the expansion of business; 
  • Travel as required to assist in client relationships and project management nationally; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and waterfront/resiliency work experience required;
  • Bachelor’s degree in structural, geotechnical, or coastal engineering preferred;
  • 7+ years of related waterfront/marine experience;
  • 7+ years’ experience in business development;
  • Proven experience in project management including: writing proposals, running/coordinating projects, managing clients, managing billings, reviewing the work of staff and mentoring staff;
  • Strong understanding of codes and other regulatory requirements;
  • Possess an entrepreneurial and professional demeanor, as well as strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills;
  • Desire and ability to seek out new business opportunities and develop additional clients while maintaining project workload;
  • Ability to coach and assist with the management of staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies;
  • A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and social skills; and
  • Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. The estimated range for this role is: $112,500 - $171,000. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
