Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Project Designer to join its collaborative team in Jacksonville, FL. This individual will serve a key function in performing and coordinating the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects, and coaching, training, and overseeing staff. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a passionate, collaborative team of civil engineers, working on exciting and meaningful projects across many different market sectors. Our work includes projects in healthcare, higher education, distribution, K-12, commercial, office, retail, mixed-use, and more.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists with the planning, design and permitting of civil engineering, land development and infrastructure projects;
- Coordinates and works with staff to prepare site work cost estimates, zoning analyses and determines the feasibility of projects based on the analysis of collected data;
- Writes and reviews draft reports, including feasibility studies, stormwater management reports, technical specifications, and utility reports;
- Plans, schedules and develops task and project budgets;
- Performs and manages multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines. Monitors budgets, schedules, and project timelines. Minimizes write-offs by keeping projects on budget;
- Prepares draft invoices, project billings, and assists in payment collections;
- Works with junior staff to improve efficiency and services performed;
- Provides direct oversight and management of junior staff for specific project assignments;
- Coordinates with other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis;
- Participates in interviewing and hiring staff;
- Participates in the identification and pursuit of new clients, prepares proposals, learns to develop additional work within existing projects and attends business development meetings with new and existing clients;
- Communicates clearly, effectively, and professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, staff, project personnel, supervisors and others. Actively participates in internal and external technical presentations and produces written articles for internal and external publications;
- Assists in preparing and conducting client and other professional group presentations, and participates in client meetings; and
- Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Pursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineer, Associate degree in Engineering Sciences, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, or extensive AutoCAD/Civil 3D training;
- 6+ years experience in site/civil design, including site planning, grading, stormwater management, drainage, and soil erosion is desired;
- Experience in local, state, and federal land use permitting;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Strong customer service skills and responsiveness to client needs;
- Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
- Ability to work well individually and within groups;
- Ability to effectively manage multiple clients and projects;
- Ability to coach and assist with the management of staff;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D design skills;
- Ability to occasionally work hours during evenings and/or weekends;
- Occasional travel to project sites and/or client locations, as required; and
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing.
