Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Civil Design Technologist to join its collaborative team in Calgary. This role will work alongside engineers, geologists and others to prepare plans to assist in the delivery of projects for a variety of private and public sector Clients.  This individual will mainly use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS platforms, and other technologies to support the Calgary office. This role will need to support field activities during construction season.

Job Responsibilities

  • Process survey data in the production of existing ground contours and utility plans;
  • Perform site grading and earthwork calculations using Civil 3D;
  • Prepare drawings and figures that include layout of utilities, roadways, lighting, landscaping and other features;
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings including sections/cross-sections and details (i.e., storm drainage, pavement and concrete, retaining walls and others);
  • Prepare Erosion and Sediment Control reports and plans;
  • Perform vehicle turning analysis with AutoTURN, Avi-Plan and other similar tools;
  • Perform mapping, spatial analysis, and data management using GIS platforms (ESRI Software tools, ArcGIS Pro);
  • Prepare boring logs, well construction diagrams, and stratigraphic visualization using borehole logging software (e.g. Open Ground Cloud);
  • Prepare 3D geological and contaminant plume modeling using Leapfrog Works / Leapfrog Environmental;
  • Provide guidance to staff on engineering technology and associated Firm-wide advancements in design technologies;
  • Complete site inspections during construction activities by others;
  • Collect samples, data and photos in the field; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Civil Technologist diploma, Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture;
  • Registered with ASET;
  • 3+ years of related site/civil and environmental experience;
  • Experience with City of Calgary CAD/drafting standards and submission requirements;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and GIS platforms with the ability to troubleshoot software issues;
  • Strong skills with data organization, including Excel data management, QA/QC workflows, and template development;
  • Ability to interpret data and prepare visual outputs for Clients and regulators;
  • Strong technical writing for reports and deliverables;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities; and
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
